Commercial sites in focus
The city of Haiger has provided information on available commercial land and the possible reuse of former industrial properties in response to an inquiry by FDP councillor Carsten Seelmeyer.
What prompted the inquiry?
In the most recent council meeting described in the newspaper report, Carsten Seelmeyer asked about new industrial sites and the status of possible purchase negotiations regarding the former Kühne & Nagel/Pracht site. The city answered the inquiry in the meeting minutes.
How the city responds to businesses
According to the administration, interested businesses are invited to discussions to clarify how much space they need, whether they intend to buy or lease and which infrastructure is required. The city then examines its own commercial land or helps put interested parties in touch with private property owners.
Available land and redevelopment
The report mentions six municipally owned commercial sites and possible offers from private property owners. In the Steinweg business park in Oberroßbach, another city-owned site is expected to be available following the land reallocation procedure. The former Oranier-Park in Sechshelden is cited as an example of successful reuse of previously vacant commercial premises.
Campus Kalteiche and other former industrial sites
The city says that, after several years of planning, it is currently completing the development planning for Campus Kalteiche, a project important to the local economy. It has also sought to support the reuse of large business premises on Rodenbacher Straße and Hansastraße. However, these projects depend on the cooperation of the property owners.
What remains open?
The newspaper article does not report a completed purchase of the Kühne & Nagel/Pracht site. It describes information requests, planning work and possible uses, rather than a final acquisition decision.
